Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about thune.dev.

General

What is thune.dev?
thune.dev is an integrated developer platform that connects all your development tools in one ecosystem. It includes web-based services (portal, secret storage, server monitoring, knowledge base, release management) and native desktop apps (Git client, SQL client, REST client, time tracking, remote access and more). The key differentiator: all apps share your credentials, users, and context automatically through the platform.
Who is thune.dev for?
thune.dev is built for software development teams, IT departments, DevOps engineers, and individual developers who want to streamline their tooling. If you're tired of managing credentials in multiple places, sending database passwords over chat, or onboarding new team members by distributing dozens of access credentials — thune.dev solves that.
How is thune.dev different from using separate tools?
The key differentiator is platform sync: credentials stored in thune secret storage are automatically available in thune connect, thune sql, thune git, thune rest, and all other apps — without manual copy-pasting. Combined with centralized user management, you assign access once and every connected app respects it. This eliminates credential distribution and ensures access control is consistent across all your tools.
Who builds thune.dev?
thune.dev is a brand of k:ey software, a German software development company. k:ey software develops custom software for web, mobile, desktop, and IT infrastructure — with a focus on purposeful, practical solutions. You can learn more at www.key-software.de.

Plans & Pricing

What's included in the Free plan?
The Free plan gives you access to all thune.dev apps and web services with usage limits per application. For example: thune git supports public repositories only (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket), thune sql allows up to 5 database connections, thune watch monitors up to 3 servers, thune mesh allows up to 50 pages, and thune flow allows up to 2 projects. You can have 1 team with just yourself — no additional members.
How does annual billing work?
Annual plans offer savings compared to monthly billing (roughly 17%). You're billed once per year upfront. You can switch from monthly to annual at any time — the annual rate applies from your next billing cycle.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period. Existing content is never deleted when you downgrade — you just won't be able to add more until you upgrade again or reduce your usage to within the plan's limits.
What happens when I exceed the free plan limits?
You'll see a notification in the affected app and be prompted to upgrade. Existing content is not deleted. You simply won't be able to add new items beyond the limit until you upgrade your plan.
Is there a free trial for paid plans?
We're working on a free trial period for paid plans. In the meantime, the Free plan lets you explore all applications and experience the platform without any commitment or credit card required.

Self-Hosting & Technical

Is thune.dev really self-hosted?
Yes. All web services are provided as Docker images that you run in your own infrastructure. Your data never leaves your servers. This is the default deployment model. A managed cloud option is planned for the future.
How do I deploy thune.dev?
Each web service comes as a Docker image. You can run them with Docker Compose or deploy to any container orchestration platform (Kubernetes, Portainer, etc.). Detailed documentation will be available at launch, including Docker Compose templates and configuration guides.
Can I access thune.dev features via CLI?
Yes. Most platform features are accessible via CLI, making thune.dev suitable for automation pipelines, scripts, and AI-powered developer workflows. This makes it possible to, for example, inject secrets from thune secret storage directly into your CI/CD pipelines.
Is thune.dev GDPR compliant?
Since thune.dev runs in your own infrastructure (self-hosted), you have full control over your data and can ensure GDPR compliance. For the planned managed cloud option, we will provide full GDPR compliance with EU-based servers and a Data Processing Agreement (DPA).
